Customs How-to/tutorials post here!

Please post your tutorials here! I think it will help to post in public as we go instead of having them e-mailed to me (that way everyone can get info and ideas as they come). I've stolen some of inga's rules and added a few of my own for this submission board:

Some rules/guidelines for the images:

1. make sure that your photos are well lit and in focus - the idea is to show your steps in as much detail as possible, macro photography is a must here.
2. please do not post images wider than 600 pixels
3. please try not to skip crucial steps, these are examples for learning purposes (it won't help if people can't follow them!).
4. your custom how-to does not need to be a full figure, it can be something as simple as, for example, a modified jacket or hair.

Please note that this thread is for posting tutorials only (plus any explanations about the custom), but please don't post comments (even though some will deserve some applause, i'm sure!!)

What we're looking for:
*Clean, clear-cut steps
*Easy language that most people that know basic english can understand
*Any how-to step-by-steps of anything customized, even if it's just a repaint
*A list or picture of materials needed for the project

thanks, and i can't wait to see the submissions!!

Step 1
Firstly, I use thinner to remove the original color when I choose the T-shirt of PK011 (http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j155/kit_stg/Pinky/11.jpg

Step2
I use the tool (i.e cutter) to cut T-shirt of the middle and polish it.
Also, I cut off the hands and insert iron or clip to connect it together.
So that you can turn the hands left, right, down or up (Seem last photo).

Step3
I add a few of putty to make a some detail of the T-shirt.

Step4
I use the Mr. Surfacer to spurt on the T-shirt and also polish it.
After, I will use my favor color to paint it.

Step5
Finished Big Grin

Making a Plushie for Your Pinky (Complete tutorial with pictures)!

How To: Make a Plushie for Your Pinky!

Supplies:
1. Sewing Needle.
2. Scissors.
3. Pins.
4. Scraps of black, yellow, and cream-coloured baby felt (the kind suitable for making infant clothes). You can use any colours that you want, but I'm making a Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer plushie so these are the colours that I need.
5. Black and white thread.
6.Tweezers
7. Cotton stuffing.
8. Aleene's No-Sew Fabric Glue.
10. A Papermate felt-tipped pen.

The Process:
Step One:
Take the black baby felt and cut out 2 matching body shapes. It can be anything you want. I chose a more humanoid shape.

Remember that when you sew the two shapes together, the overall body will be somewhat smaller than normal, so you may want to check the shapes you have cut out against your Pinky to make sure it's a little bit oversized.

Step Two:
Pin the body shapes together. Then, thread the black thread through your sewing needle. Start at one shoulder of the body and sew down the arm, legs, and up to the other shoulder, leaving the neck open for the cotton stuffing. You will want to be weary of sewing too close to the edge, as the felt will fray towards the edges.

Step Three:
Next, you're going to turn the now sewn-together body inside out. It can be a tight fit, so be patient and work slowly. I use my Tweezers to reach inside body and pull it inside out.

Be careful, but don't worry if your stitches come out. Once you've got the body turned right-side out, you can sew up any stitches that have come loose and trim away any frayed edges.

Step Four:
Use the flat end of your tweezers and stuff the teeny body with the cotton stuffing. Again, be weary of popping your stitches.

Now that you've got the little body stuffed, you can check the size of your plushie against your Pinky again.

Step Five:
Time for the head! Take the cream coloured fabric (since my plushie is a wee mini-Spike) and cut out an oval. Like the body, you'll want the head to be slightly over-sized.

Step Six:
Using the white thread, sew up the head, leaving space open at the neck for the stuffing.

Step Seven:
Once the head is sewn up, turn it inside out and stuff it just as you did with the body. You also might want to check it again against your Pinky to make absolutely sure that you're happy with the size.

Step Eight:
Take your Papermate felt-tipped marker and draw the plushie's face on lightly.

Step Nine:

Cut out a small triangle of yellow baby felt for the plushie's hair. Take your Aleena's No-Sew Fabric Glue and squeeze out a little along the hem on the top of the plushie's head. Mold the yellow felt around the head until it is correct.

Cut off the excess yellow felt and place more No-Sew on the felt to glue it down to the rest of the head.

Mold it down and cut off any extra felt.

And you're done!
I hope that was clear and  will help some people. It's a very easy process to modify. For example, with the addition of ears, this could have very simply been a panda plushie.

Thanks for reading!  Heart

Before we start, I should say that for my hat, I didn't really take any measurements of my Pinky... I just estimated the size of each piece, but you may want to take measurements. I was little bit lazy on my second hat so it turned out too big... For your first hat, you may want to use stretchy material so that if it ends up a little on the small size, it'll still fit on your Pinky's head. I find that stiffer fabric is easier to work with though.

Materials:
Your pinky for sizing
Scissors
Scrap fabric
Sewing thread
Sewing needle
Pins
Embellishments (beads, ribbon, sequins, etc.)

1. Cut out 5 little isoceles triangles, with one side that's a little bit more than 1/5 of the circumference of your Pinky's head. I made each of mine around 1/4 of the circumference. The other two sides should be slightly rounded.
   width: 1inch
   height: 1 1/8 inch
Keep in mind that my hat turned out too big in the end.

2. Now it's time to sew! put two of the triangles together, good sides against each other, and starting from the tip, sew down one side, keeping the stitches as close together as possible (but not too close to the edge). Then sew all the way back up on the same side to get back to the tip.

Then you'll have two triangles sewn together like so:

3. Align a new triangle piece against one that's already been sewn, good sides touching again. Sew along the edge the same way, starting from the tip where you left off.

4. Repeat for the rest of the pieces, and then sew the first and last piece together.

5. Make a few stitches on the inside at the top where all the triangles meet to make sure there isn't a hole at the top of the hat. It also makes it less pointy!

6. Turn the hat right side out, and check how it fits on your Pinky so far. It looks a little like an umbrella, doesn't it?

7. Now cut a strip of fabric that's about 1 1/8 inch wide, and long enough to go around your Pinky's head (with a little extra length just in case).

8. Make a fold at about 1/3 of the width, and then fold the other edge in. Pin in place.

9. Sew along the center of the strip, removing the pins one by one as you go. Make sure the stitches look nice because they'll be visible on the outside of the hat! You can sew beads on at this point, but I won't be doing it in this tutorial.

10. Now, sew the strip onto the bottom edge of the hat, overlapping a bit. What I do is I align the edge with the stitches I made in along the center of the strip.

11. When you've gone all the way around, sew the end down.

12. You can stop here and leave the hat the way it is if you like the way it looks or...

13. ...you can add a beak. Cut two identical beak pieces a little larger than the size you want.

12. Put them together, good sides against each other, and sew along the rounded edge.

13. Turn the beak right side out, and then sew along the rounded edge again to keep it flat.

14. Turn the hat inside out and sew the beak in where you want it.
http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa141/kumokoya/pkst/tutorial_hat24.jpg

And there you go! Your Pinky now has a new Kumoko style trendy hat!

If you want to use alternating colours on the top part of the hat, you'll have to do it with 4 or 6 pieces instead of 5. I hope this was helpful!

How to Make a Pinky House-Dress:

Supplies:
1.  A pencil and a scrap of paper.
2. Fabric- a small swatch for the actual dress along with a similar sized swatch for the form (the pattern to make the final piece).
3. Pins.
4. Thread.
5. Sewing Needles.

Step One:

First, sketch out what your housedress will look like. It's always good to have in mind what your design will look like before you begin.

Step Two:

Using your Pinky as a guide, determine the exact size of your housedress. On your scrap fabric, draw your pattern. I found it very helpful to actually trace around your Pinky's body for the placement of the neckline, armholes, and the length. You might want to figure out which Pinky body will go underneath the dress since it might be difficult to get on some arms. I chose the bent arms which was not a good choice to start with. I would suggest the straight arms.

Step Three:

The back and front of the form from what you have drawn on the fabric. Remember, this is just the form, so it's okay if there are pencil lines on it.

Step Four:

Sew your form together. You can be quick about it, but remember that you don't want to sew up the armholes, neckline, or hemline. I started underneath the left side arm hole and sewed down to the bottom of the dress. Then I moved to underneath the right arm hole and sewed down on that side. Finally, I sewed from the top of the left arm hole up to the left edge of the beginning of the neckline, and do the same for the right. Don't worry about hemming at the moment.
Place the sewn form on your Pinky. It's okay if some stitches pop; those are the places you need to note when you cut out your final piece of fabric since those are the areas that need a little extra wiggle room. How does the form look on your Pinky? Was it what you wanted? If not, you can correct as needed. For me, I wanted my hem to be a little longer on the bottom, so I was sure to add a little more fabric to the bottom when I cut the final piece of fabric.

Step Five:

Cut out your fabric for you want for you finished piece. And sew it just as you did the form, remembering that the neck, arms, and bottom need to remain open. After I finished sewing, I hemmed about a milimeter on the bottom of the house dress and a small fraction in the armholes and neckline.

And you're finished! Time to get Pinky into her new outfit!

Okay, not the prettiest or most elaborate kind of dress to make, but it's easy and it's easy to adapt to other kinds of outfits.
