I'd say Prismacolor markers are good, but they can be pricey... or, you can scan your work in, and color in Photoshop~

Prismas ar really nice, like superdonut said, but they usually cost like 10 dollars for one marker. (At least at the over the top shop where we get them.  WTH?!)  You might want to get Prang colored pencils, since they come in HUGE sizes. Water color works if you know how to control it.

Oil pastels work REALLY well, but they smudge eaisly, and you'll have to spray it with a fixative whenever you finish something like that.

I mainly just use the computer for colouring, seeing as I can't really afford fancy colouring tools. I really really love Corel Painter Essentials 2, seeing as it mimicks a lot of different colouring and drawing methods.

You coud try water colours or poster colours. I know you said you didn't have patience for colour pencils, but you don't have to colour the whole picture using them. I always just colour the places where I think the shadows should be and fill in the surrounding areas by smearing the colours.  Alternatively you could use a wet brush to help spread the colours.
